From the very time of the fall of man, God has spoken of the ultimate defeat of Satan by the seed of the woman. Through the Old Testament revelation, that seed was revealed to be the Messiah, the Son of God, to be born of a virgin. It is he who would crush the head of the serpent. He accomplished that on the cross, and here in these verses we see the final consignment of the devil to eternal punishment, as Christ fully and finally conquers his enemies . . . and ours.
