The Mindful Educator's Guide To Food In Sensory Play
In this week's episode of the EARLY EDUCATION IN THE AGE OF AI audio show, I’m talking about the often taboo topic of using food in sensory play activities AND how AI chatbots can assist early childhood educators in planning and reflecting on sensory activities and better supporting the diverse needs of children with sensory processing challenges.
I’ll give you examples of AI prompts and questions that educators can use with AI chatbots to quickly get ideas for sensory play that’s aligned with specific frameworks - including the EYLF and children's individual needs. I also explain the difference between a general chatbot and the Empowered Educator MentorBots who have been trained by me to provide specialised support for early education professionals.
We’ll get into the benefits and concerns around using food in sensory play and I’ll give you my simple strategies to balance sensory exploration with teaching sustainability. I also highlight the power of using sensory play to help children with oral aversions, and suggest some thoughtful ways to respect diverse cultural perspectives when using food in play - Let’s Explore the Possibilities Together…
