True crime

A report on corruption and a cover-up by city officials of Tacoma, Wash., focusing on David Brame, the city’s police chief. After 11 years of marriage, David's wife Crystal filed for a divorce. John Hathaway, who operated the website, "The New Takhoman," anonymously received the divorce papers, which contained details about the couple’s marriage, including allegations of sexual demands, abuse and death threats. John published the information, titled “Tacoma Confidential,” and the story made headlines. Shortly afterwards, David shot Crystal in the head and then turned the gun on himself. In April 2003, Air Force Colonel Philip Shue died in a violent car crash when his vehicle struck trees alongside a Texas interstate highway.  After a year-long investigation, all the agencies involved -- the Air Force, and both local and state police -- agreed that Col. Shue had suffered a psychological breakdown and died by suicide. However, Tracy Shue, his widow, was adamant that her husband had been abducted and tortured, and then somehow broken free. “48 Hours" correspondent Troy Roberts reports.
