The Mistaken Identity

1 Peter 2:9-10 – 9

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.

1. You are acceptable – 1 Peter 2:9, “a chosen people”

2. You are valuable – 1 Peter 2:9, “God’s special possession”

1 Corinthians 7:23 – “You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of human beings.”

But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do his work and speak out for him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference he made for you—from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.

4. You are forgivable – 1 Peter 2:9, “a holy nation”

“There is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus”

God doesn’t rehearse your sin, he releases it.

5. You are lovable – 1 Peter 2:10, “you have received mercy”

Isaiah 54:10 (Good News Translation)


The mountains and hills may crumble, but my love for you will never end; I will keep forever my promise of peace.” So says the Lord who loves you.

The world tells us to “do, strive, and achieve” but Jesus says “surrender, believe and receive!”
