The Seattle Monastery was an old abandoned church that George Freeman turned into a night club from 1977-1984. Freeman,  had a lot of bad press for this club but many folks from that era thank Mr. Freeman for providing one of the first LGBT nightclubs to Seattle, WA.  I researched this some years ago after seeing that house next to I-5 (North) near the 520 bridge that had purple lights around it and can be seen from the freeway.
