The White family receives a monkey's paw that grants three wishes, but with terrible consequences. They dismiss it until their son Herbert jokes about wishing for money. They wish for two hundred pounds, and soon learn Herbert is killed in an accident at work, with the company offering two hundred pounds as compensation. Grief-stricken, Mrs. White urges her husband to wish Herbert back to life. Overcome with fear about what form their son will return in, Mr. White uses the final wish as something knocks at the door in the middle of the night.
