This episode confronts some of the hardest truths in America’s present moment. While officials say no broken bones were found and a full autopsy is pending, the discovery has shaken the campus, reigniting painful questions about race, history, and justice in the Deep South. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has ordered the removal of iconic slavery relics—like “The Scourged Back”—from National Park sites, claiming it’s part of “restoring truth” to history. In Texas, an animal shelter director was fired after tolerating racial slurs in the workplace, underscoring how deeply entrenched racism remains in everyday institutions. And at the Washington Post, longtime columnist Karen Attiah says she was fired for speaking out against political violence and racial double standards, leaving the paper without a single full-time Opinion Columnist. From campuses to newsrooms to the nation’s parks, the fight over memory, justice, and whose stories get told is intensifying—and we’re breaking it down.
