Listen Later

The most dangerous thing in the woods isn’t rattlesnakes, bears or wild boars. It’s people.

Increasingly outdoors lovers are coming into contact with criminal elements and even human predators everywhere from suburban green spaces to our national forests.

Carry a remote transponder that can send a distress signal to rescue units if you get a hurt or need help.

Be cautious of strangers approaching YOU for help. If the situation is unclear, offer to go back and call emergency officials.

And finally, go with your gut. If you feel uneasy about a location, don't go there. There are plenty of other options out there.
