A young-Earth creationist museum in rural Texas from his late grandfather, Elijah. While sorting through the kitschy, biblical exhibits, he discovers journals detailing secret experiments and a letter revealing that the museum sits atop a cave containing a literal "pre-flood" world.
Exploring further, the narrator finds a hidden chamber filled with grotesque, mutated creatures and senses a powerful, hostile entity dwelling deeper underground. On a return trip with two police officers, he encounters the horribly transformed and immobilized body of his grandfather and barely escapes, managing to set the museum on fire to destroy the horrific discoveries, though one officer dies in the process.
The story concludes with the narrator hospitalized, severely injured, and realizing that his own body is beginning to mutate due to prolonged exposure to the mysterious underground environment.
