The Name Only God Knows
“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give that person a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to the one who receives it.” – Revelation 2:17.
Have you ever thought about this? One day God Himself will give you a new name. Not a nickname, not a label the world throws at you, but a name only you and He will know. That new name means a new character, an identity completely reshaped by Christ.
A lot of young people today walk around carrying names they never chose: “failure,” “unwanted,” “anxious,” “addict,” “hopeless.” But Jesus promises: “If you overcome, I will give you a new name.” He’s not looking at who you were yesterday—He’s looking at who He can make you become.
The hidden manna represents spiritual food—something only Jesus can give. He’s the Bread of Life. That means if you’re feeding yourself with empty things—social media, temporary pleasures, chasing status—you’ll stay hungry. But when you feed on Christ, your soul is satisfied, and He gives you the strength to overcome.
The white stone points to absolution. Back in ancient times, a judge would hand someone a white stone to declare them innocent. Jesus has already paid the price for you, already declared you free. But there’s one condition: you must overcome. Overcoming doesn’t mean being perfect—it means not giving up on walking with Him. Even if you stumble, even if you fall, you keep getting up and moving forward.
So let me ask you: What name have you been carrying lately? What identity have you allowed to define you? Jesus wants to give you something new, something eternal, something that belongs only to you. But it depends on the choice you make right now.
Today is the day to say: “Lord, I want that new name. I want that new life. I want to be filled with You.”
Are you ready to leave the old name behind and receive what only God can give you?
