Over the years, the NBA has garnered a reputation for being the progressive sports league — one that allowed its people to speak their minds. But late last week, after the general manager of the Houston Rockets tweeted in support of pro-democracy demonstrators in Hong Kong, there was swift backlash from the league’s business partners in China, leading the NBA to issue an apology in both English and Chinese.
