The first mention of the Necronomicon was in H. P. Lovecrafts short story The Hound and while Lovecraft insisted that it was a work of pure fiction who's title came to him in a dream many believe it to be true. The Necronomicon that we're looking into today is known as The Simon Necronomicon and is a patchwork mixing middle eastern mysticism with the writings of H. P. Lovecreft and Aleister Crowley. Simon insisted that the book was a genuine collection of magic rituals that predate modern religions.
