The Need to Proclaim the Gospel.

Beloved what the church needs to be doing above, everything else, is to proclaim the gospel. Having ministries is fine, and we need ministries, but the power is in the gospel.  Paul said in Romans 1:16:  For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

why is Paul not ashamed of the gospel? “It is the power of God”! The Greek word translated as “power” is dunamis, from which we get our English word dynamite. It is dunamis power! It is the kind of power Dr. Vincent calls divine energy! In itself, the gospel has power, in other words, the gospel has built-in power. Listen it’s not the preacher’s voice, it’s not your testimony, it's divine power.

When Paul said that “It is the power of God unto salvation.” That is the end and the effect of the gospel. Listen to me, the word “Salvation” is the all–inclusive term of the gospel, and it simply means “deliverance.” It embraces everything from justification to glorification. It is both an act and it is a process. It is equally true that I have been saved, I am being saved, and I shall be saved. So, in other words, the gospel is not just for those who are lost, but also for those who have been born again. The good news beloved we are still being delivered from our sins; every day we see how much we need the gospel of Jesus Christ. In His book Fourfold Salvation A.W. Pink, Pink said “The subject of God’s so-great-salvation (Heb 2:3), as it is revealed to us in the Scriptures and made known in Christian experience, is worthy of a life’s study.

“If any man thinks he knoweth anything, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know (1Cor. 8:2). The fact is that the moment any of us really takes it for granted that he already knows all that there is to be known on any subject cover in God’s Word, he at once cuts himself off from any further light thereupon. That which is most needed by all of us in order to have a better understanding of Divine things is not a brilliant mind, but a truly humble heart and a teachable spirit, and for that, we should daily pray for. Beloved we need the gospel today as we did the first time, we heard it.

Martyn Lloyd-Jones opened a sermon on Paul’s phrase, “the gospel of God,” by stating his fear, is that we are so familiar with certain words, such as “gospel,”, that we are not thrilled and we are not moved to the depths of our being by the wonder of it all.  (Romans: The Gospel of God [Zondervan], p. 55). Listen beloved the gospel of God is the theme of Romans and Paul explains it in Romans 1:2-4. When we read these verses, it should move us to a deeper love for Him.

Romans teaches the total depravity of man. Man is downright and hopelessly lost. He must have the righteousness of God since he has none of his own.

And for us who are saved, the gospel shows us the mercy and grace of God for us.

R.C. Sproul, said in his book, What Is the Gospel.  Once we are saved and in a saving relationship with Christ, our quest for righteousne
