Scripture: Genesis 3:1-21, Hebrews 9:14, 1 Peter 3:21-22
Transformative Truth:
Guilt and shame lose their power at the cross of Christ.
The conscience is your awareness of what you believe is right and wrong.
Modern-Day Fig Leaves (Self-Atoning, Self-Protective Measures)
• The blame game
• Perfectionism and overachievement
• Busyness and distractions
• Religious duties and good works
I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring [seed] and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.
- Genesis 3:15
How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.
- Hebrews 9:14
Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him.
- 1 Peter 3:21-22
