For patients diagnosed with depression for the first time the recommended course of treatment is the same; however, there’s a large patient population for whom these treatments won’t work. So it became increasingly important for Dr. Liston to map the brains of people suffering from major depression to see how it was impacting brain structures and symptoms. The research showed that certain networks expanded in the brains of patients who had depression and pushed into other networks.
