According to a recent report issued by the Pretrial Detention Reform Workgroups the system is “unsafe and unfair,” “exacerbates socioeconomic disparities and racial bias,” and disproportionately advantages those with big bank accounts. However, there is obvious resistance in many communities, and especially from specific interest groups like the bail bond industry.
