JBWAI (Michael Baiye) is afrobeat/afropop artist from Cameroon. The singer-songwriter immigrated to Canada 9 years ago to attend university and study computer science. In his first year of university he met fellow student who were rappers and singers so he began dancing as well. After graduating he ultimately decided to pursue music as a career instead of computer science, much to the chagrin of his family who never expected him to become a musical artist since he is naturally reserved quiet person.
He believes that the stage is where he can really express himself as a true artist, whether he is alone in his room or in front of hundreds people. Even if he is nervous he starts to feel more comfortable by taping into a different energy to focus on his music. JBWAI sees music as a very spiritual and there is nothing that is so popular that has such an impact on our everyday lives.
JBWAI’s first EP Certified was released on August 19th and hie had first Certified concert was on October 16th, where he was able to connect with his fans in downtown Toronto. He collaborated with other local afrobeat/afropop artists too.
On this episode JBWAI performed Kalamity feat. Dadaboy & Bolu Ajibade, one of his favourite songs off his EP. The song is about the struggle to success and him telling his listeners that at the end of the road their is light, so one day they will get their reward for their hard-work from god.
