The Nikki Clarke Show with Sylvia Martignani
Sylvia Martignani is the founder of Agora Prep Academy. Sylvia’s love for education started since childhood. She studied E.C.E. (early childhood education) at college and then worked with toddlers and preschoolers. She then went back to school to earn her B.A. in psychology and education. She focused on engagement and learning for her thesis and had the desire to improve the education system. Over the past 20 years she has worked in different levels of education including for the Federal Public Service creating orientations for new public servants entering the Federal government. She always wanted to change the education system for the next generation of children. Her years of experience previously working at the daycare in marketing/promotion and in the education system were useful and helping Sylvia take the initiative with her own children’s education especially during the pandemic when they struggled to adjust to solely learning at home online.
This new challenge inspired Sylvia to learn more about reforming education by taking an online course through Harvard. After she completed this course she used the non-traditional learning techniques to create her own tutoring business Agora Prep Academy. Traditional education techniques work for some children but not for all and so Sylvia wants people to consider different tools and learning styles tailored for each individual child. Parents and their children want to take more control over what their children are learning and how they learn by reviewing different pedagogies (education styles) that have been successfully implemented globally for example in Sweden and Netherlands. Children also learn not only about the major subjects such as English, Math, Science French etc. but focus on their interests like horticulture and outdoor learning and use sensory rooms for visual, audio and tactile learning. Children are encouraged to learn at their own pace/schedules and use technology including communicating with other schools in Belgium via zoom. Agora Prep is continuing to expand globally and online with satellite locations, to help form the next generation of students who will be our future global leaders.
