In November 2004, United States Navy personnel operating off Southern California detected unusual objects during training exercises involving the USS Nimitz carrier strike group. Radar operators reported unexplained contacts, and fighter pilots were eventually directed toward one of them.
Commander David Fravor and Lieutenant Commander Alex Dietrich later described seeing a smooth white object above disturbed ocean water. Another flight recorded infrared footage of an unidentified object. The Department of Defense later officially released that video, confirming its military origin while leaving the object itself unidentified.
Was the encounter caused by an unusual aircraft, sensor limitations, classified technology, or something investigators still cannot adequately reconstruct?
