Lord Peter Wimsey is stranded by a car accident during a snowstorm on New Year’s Eve. He seeks shelter with the local rector, Rev. Theodore Venables, and is invited to help ring in the New Year — literally — by joining the bell-ringers for the marathon peal on the eight enormous church bells, with ominous names like Batty Thomas and Tailor Paul.
