The #NOTplaying Podcast

After an initial overload of releases last month we seem to be very much in a sort of calm respite before the storm as we battle our way through piles of shame in time for the main event which is just a few short weeks away.

The biggest game we didn't quite get to last time is Marvel's Wolverine, which Rob has been having a more than acceptable time with despite the widespread paning the game seems to have received. Meanwhile, Will has finally taken the plunge once more into Black Flag Resynced and Marcus is still tinkering with The Witcher 3 Remastered.

It's just a bad time to put anything out anywhere near GTA VI. You can almost feel the weight of it's unholy footprints approaching...

Until next time.

We're back after our Summer Break and it couldn't be sooner what with the avalanche of announcements from not only Gamescom, but a mammoth-sized State of Play and Nintendo Direct for good measure...

We're also getting swarmed by new game releases as the oceans part for the imminent release of GTA VI, which also made a big splash on Netflix recently!

So listen on, for all this plus Rob's take on The Blood of Dawnwalker, Zero Company & Resonance, plus Will's been getting his Elder Scrolls fix from Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon & Marcus may have finally finished Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth!

It's that time of year again, kicking off with Sony's latest State of Play, through to Geoff Keighley's latest round of announcements and culminating in a pretty strong showing from Xbox, assuming they don't close half the studios whose games they were showcasing before the year is out.

But when isn't it a tumultous time in the games industry? At least we have the long awaited arrival of IO Interactive's take on the Bond franchise to keep us distracted. And what a distraction it has been for both Rob and Will.

A very Japanese flavoured episode this week with Will trying out the other big open world samurai game from last year and Rob just back from his travels to the actual real land of the rising sun!

We've also sampled Capcom's latest and Marcus attempts to explain why netcode is advertised as a feature in fighting games.

It's a whole new world of fun on this week's #NOTplaying Podcast!

It's been a tumultuous first few weeks in videogames this year, with chip shortages delaying consoles and the Xbox leadership doing a runner, so we had to bring our recording scheduling forward to cover it all.

The inevitable march of new releases has definitely peaked too with the most unlikeliest of additions to Rob's rotation in the form of cat-tastic Mewgenics, which combines traditional RPG tactics with some questionable feline breeding practises.

All this & much much more in news-packed #NOTplaying Podcast!

We really have made the most out of this first and most longest of months to maximise our tardiness in kicking off 2026 and we still have some laundry to air before even that can happen with Rob first having to deliver his ultimate verdict on 2025.

We also look back on our predictions for 2025 before making some new ones for 2026, followed by our take on the recent Xbox Developer Showcase & what else we have coming up over the next 12 months!

No running order this week, but we knew discussion of this year's Game Awards would dominate this episode so we decided to roll with it.

We're saving our full bingo card powered review of the year for after Christmas, but until then enjoy this feast of announcement dissections and who knows? Maybe at least one of us might have played this year's winner, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 by then too!

It's all been kicking off in Japan lately, with Microsoft still doing their best to take over the Tokyo Game Show and Nintendo preparing for the 40th Anniversary of Super Mario Bros next year. Even Sony decided to step up with a fairly weighty preview and release date announcement for Insomniac's next big Marvel game, Wolverine.

Meanwhile on the playlist, Will's still trying for his 'perfect playthrough' of Baldur's Gate 3, Marcus has been revisiting Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth and Rob's revelling in a mixture of smaller indie hits such as Powerhoof's The Drifter while under attack from a small army of Steam Nextfest Demos.

Enjoy!
