Sorry I listened
I was not impressed with this book. We must remember that all reviews are subjective. Lets begin by giving you how I use audio books and the basis of my review. I use audio books to make a 45-minute trip to and from the office and long road trips more enjoyable. Therefore, books must have a clear plot, plenty of action and just the right amount of setting the scene without being overly descriptive (disruptive). For me, this book fails in all three categories. Hopefully when I get to the office I do not want to turn off my iPod. In this case, it was a pleasure to turn it off. To my mind, the plot was confusing and the mystery almost non-existent. The detective seemed to float from event to event. As to setting the scene, there was too much and it took away from the story or should I say, confused it.
The narrator simply distracted me rather than drawing me into the action. Nevertheless, lets be honest, he did not have that much to work with. I guess he did his best.
Overall, this is not a book I would ever pick up again. We all have our good days and so on. I will try another book by this author before I make up my mind about my personal like or dislike.
For me, this was not an enjoyable listen.
The odour of bad writing!!
I'm sorry to write that this is one of the worst books I have bought. I can honestly say I thought it totally unbelievable how the main character bumps into people who give him the answers he needs in full!!
And please don't get me started on the appalling accents from the reader, which is unfortunate as there a quite a few!
Since when does a 'posh' speaking English man refer to women as 'Birds'?? Mabey someone from the East End of London or perhaps London general but not an Upper Crust Gent.
I struggled with this book and still have not yet managed to listen to the last hour.
For the avid listener I would definately give this one a wide berth.
