The Good Shepherd
Part 4: The Oil
Psalm 23:1 (NIV) – The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.Â
John 10:14 (NLT) – “I am the good shepherd…
Psalm 23:5 (NIV) – You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies…Â
Psalm 23:5 (NIV) – You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil…
All throughout Scripture, OIL was symbolic of THE HOLY SPIRIT.
How the Holy Spirit Helps the Sheep:
1. The Holy Spirit Frees Us
Romans 8:2 (NLT) – And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.
2 Corinthians 3:17 (NLT) – For the Lord is the Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
Ephesians 3:16 (NLT) – I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.Â
2. The Holy Spirit Forms Us
Romans 8:5-6 (NLT) – Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.Â
Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT) – But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
3. The Holy Spirit Fills Us
Acts 2:1-4  (NLT) – On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. 2 Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. 3 Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. 4 And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.
Ephesians 5:18 (NLT) – Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit
Psalm 23:5 (NIV) – You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
