In which a hopeful youth named Kit awaits the arrival of beloved travellers, pondering reports of their departure to a foreign land, whilst dutifully attending to small tasks in their absence. At last, he meets the curious old couple with their obstinate pony Whisker, and finds himself amidst a quaint scene of mingled order and charming disorder at the Notary’s house.
