In which the unfortunate Kit is ensnared in a grievous misunderstanding, accused of theft with evidence most damningly presented against him, whilst his protests of innocence fall on skeptical ears. Amidst the grim proceedings and unsettling presence of the malevolent dwarf Quilp, Kit is conveyed to face the stern judgment of the law, his faithful friends standing aghast at the dark turn of events.
