The Old Fashioned Breakdown: A Mad Men Podcast episodes

July 26, 2022 Meditations in an Emergency S2 Ep13
When we started on this episode the was a threat of world war, companies were threstening redundancies and ever since there's been an uproar about planned pregnancies. Good Job we have a fun tv show to let us forget real life, AMIRITE!?

In this episode Fola tries not to pretend he understands any academic notions of semiotics and how they relate to not only this episode but Mad Men in general.
The guys try to explain the use of metaphor and metonymy in psychology and human perception while at the same time trying to figure out the true meaning behind Betty eating cold chicken out of the fridge in the dead of night. They try to cover the following subjects.... and more:
Sign, Signifier, Signified
Cuban Missile Crisis
Mimetic Desire

June 30, 2021 The Jet Set S2 Ep11
Fola and Helen are back after what feels like years to tackle the subject of masculine fantasy, and Fola creates a mini sci-fi trilogy within a Podcast.... you really have to listen to understand what that means.
Fola also has a cold, so he sounds asthmatic. Helen Stayed awake till the end so, well done her!
PS.. we'll try to do it quicker next episode... Although don't hold us to that

April 03, 2021 The Inheritance S2 Ep10
Fola and Helen are back after Fola has spent weeks try to find something, or more accurately, nothing (i.e. Lack) to say about this episode of Mad Men. The theme is growing up and what that involves, sounds simple enough right? But no Fola has to make it more complicated.
Also Helen has a cat.

This is Lacan's Table of Three Types of Lack that Fola was trying to explain
Agent
Lack
Object
Real Father
Symbolic Castration
Imaginary Phallus
Symbolic Mother
Imaginary Frustration
Real Breast
Imaginary Father
Real Privation
Symbolic Phallus

Helens new friend Elton...
Don't be fooled by any apparent "cuteness" he was sent to ruin podcasts.

Fola in particular was able to use this episode to explore the them of depression and rebirth.. mainly rebirth after part of the audio for the podcast was destroyed. A large topic in this episode is ego drive

January 02, 2021 A Night to Remember S2 Ep8
In this episode Fola mansplains women to Helen. The guys try to improve their awareness about things in general and kinda show that they dont know that much. Fola gets anxious about the sound quality of the podcast, and Helen surprises Fola with her ability to just know stuff he spends hrs researching.
And they both really enjoyed it.
Oh and they explore the female orgasm
About the feminine simulation
