Hester, an elderly nurse, who recounts a chilling episode from her youth while caring for a young girl named Rosamond.

After Rosamond’s parents die, Hester accompanies her to Furnivall Manor, a remote and gloomy estate in the English countryside, inhabited by the cold and mysterious Miss Grace Furnivall.
