The One When she asked to have her identity hidden because of stigmas we discuss during the episode.
Stigmas with alcohol and being a mother are so wild that I am honoring this guests wishes by not releasing her name. Even though she’s sober now 11 years she is still not ready yet for her son or exes to hear her tell her story. It’s a very important episode to release because her story is going to relate to most mothers that listen to the show, maybe even fathers. She never got a DUI and doesn’t “appear” to be an alcoholic, but it’s not how much we drank. It’s why we drank. Most people that aren’t in recovery and listen to my show can’t relate to a lot of guests stories. She was actually worried about not being as crazy of a story as others I’ve recorded, but that’s exactly why this is the most relatable episode yet. She’s been through a lot in her recovery, but she just keeps looking forward and what’s best for her teenage boy. We discuss so many different topics in our very fun conversation! The biggest one that sticks out to me though is how acceptable it is for moms to openly talk about getting drunk or day drinking causing a lot of issues with home life with couples and families over something very legal and acceptable. I believe she refers to it as “mommy wine culture”.
