Eugene Barrett, a serial killer from Hawaii, murdered three women over a span of 40 years. He had a history of excessive drinking and was dishonorably discharged from the army. Barrett's first murder occurred in 1959 when he shot his ex-girlfriend. He was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment but was later paroled. Barrett went on to commit two more murders, one in 1972 and another in 1995. The criminal justice system failed these women, and Barrett should never have been released after his first murder.
