One of the reasons some people don't go to church is that they believe that they can go to heaven without Jesus. Well, for Christians, it doesn't make any sense that someone believes in heaven while he doesn't believe in Jesus because it depends on the judgment of Christ Jesus whether a person is admitted to heaven or not. Where do these people, especially Christians get this idea of going to heaven without Jesus? Unfortunately, many Christian theologians and clergy have spread this idea. They do not deny heaven but they often say any people can be saved without Christ as long as they are good or, more specifically speaking, faithful to their conscience. There are not too many people who believe that they are bad and evil. Most people behave as they feel comfortable with their conscience. Then, most people on earth will be able to go to heaven without Christ Jesus or being taught of the Christian faith. Did Jesus come only for a small group of wicked men throughout history?
However, the letter of St. John teaches the necessity of Christ for salvation. St. John doesn't present Christ Jesus as one option or one way among many. Christ is the only way to salvation. He writes, "whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life." This negative statement precludes other interpretations. Does St. John speak only to his contemporaries? Do we not know that the Holy Spirit is speaking through St. John? When Jesus said," I will be with you until the end of time," was he speaking only to his disciples? These words and promises of the letter of St. John and Jesus are valid for all humanity until the last judgment.
St. John very harshly speaks about those who exclude Christ Jesus in man's salvation. Denying Christ in man's salvation is tantamount to denying God and making him a liar. "Those who do not believe in God have made him a liar by not believing in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son.”
Brothers and sisters, do not be swayed to and fro. We have the testimony of God the Father about his son, Christ Jesus. Let us say together as St. Peter confessed, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life."
