“I AM the Gate for the Sheep” is one of the less well-known, or popular, I AM statements of Christ. However, the teaching behind it is profound. We find in John 10:1-10.

When Jesus said “I am the light of the world”, the temple and Jerusalem were lit up by four massive menorahs standing 75 feet high in the Court of the Women. They symbolised the pillar of fire that Israel followed in the wilderness but now … the true “light of the world” was in their midst. Would they follow Him?

Christians are told to hold their ground, take a stand and ‘put on the full armour’ of God. But who or what are they to take a stand against, and how does this armour help? And why does Paul ask for prayer?

Children are told to obey their parent ‘in the Lord’, but what does that mean? And fathers are told to bring children up in ‘ the training and instruction of the Lord’. But what about mothers? Slaves are told to obey their masters as they would obey the Lord, and but how were masters to treat their slaves?

1. a husband is the ‘head’ of the wife; but what does he mean by ‘head’?
2. wives are told to ‘submit’ to their own husband, but what does he mean by ‘submit’?
3. and three times husbands are told to ‘love’ their wives, but what does he mean by ‘love’?
