It's interesting to note that the act of proposing, particularly in the Western world, often involves the proposer kneeling in front of the person they are proposing to and presenting a ring. This tradition raises questions about its origins and why it's typically the man who kneels and not the woman. Upon researching, it seems that the tradition of kneeling during a proposal is a more modern practice and doesn't have clear historical roots. In ancient times, engagements were often business arrangements between wealthy families and kneeling during a proposal was not a common practice. Paintings of noble engagements from history show both parties standing or sitting, without any kneeling involved.
