Marquis de Sade was a freak. Born into French nobility, he wrote s*xually explicit novels (Justine, 120 Days of Sodom) and he had an appetite for s*xual violence IRL that landed him (and his man servant) in the Bastille and mental institutions many times. That didn't stop him from being elected to the new government after the French revolution. Also, Napoleon HATED his books.
