Those viewers are given a character who is supposed to be their age but lacks the "fish out of water" perspective that will help them go through the movie properly. While the casting may target Generation Z audiences, the picture is designed for older audiences who want to cackle at Keaton's crazy energy, laugh at O'Hara's ludicrous one-liners, and marvel at the set design, which displays new aspects of Burton's Gothic afterlife. Unfortunately, no one should be surprised when a legacy sequel foregoes the potential to actually create a new doorway into the story in favor of repetition and nostalgia-mining. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice's plot is both lackluster and overcrowded.
