When you picture a werewolf, you probably think of a Hollywood monster—hair sprouting under a full moon, silver bullets, and a man caught between human and beast. But the legend of humans turning into wolves is far older—and far stranger—than the movies ever imagined.
For thousands of years, cultures around the world have told stories of people transforming into wolves: sometimes as punishment, sometimes as warriors, and sometimes as monsters. From the ancient Greek tale of King Lycaon, to Norse wolf-warriors, to medieval trials where real people were executed as werewolves, these legends reveal as much about human fears and morality as they do about folklore.
We’ll explore how wolves became symbols of both power and danger, why the Church linked werewolves to witchcraft and the Devil, and how real-world causes like rabies, superstition, and psychological conditions fed the myth.
Because the werewolf isn’t just about monsters in the woods—it’s about the darker parts of human nature itself.
