The Orthodox Pilgrim

After taking a day in Edinburgh, the pilgrims of The Raven and the Dove come to Glasgow, “the green hollow,” looking for the saints who first made it holy: Serf the wonderworker, Theneva the exiled princess, and her son Kentigern, whom Glasgow calls Mungo, “the dear one.” Guided by Fiona Mackinnon, a Glaswegian who has spent years gathering the city’s scattered memory, they find Mungo’s shrine, the remains of the holy wells, and a small Orthodox chapel where the old Celtic saints welcome them home. Here, they will also shine a light on the ministry of the Archangel Gabriel community as Bp. Augustine walks in the steps of St. Kessog.

The pilgrims of the Raven and the Dove make their way to the Holy Island of Iona, the ancient heart of Celtic Christianity in Britain. There, they walk the grounds where St. Columba built his monastery on the edge of the world, and tell the story of the Irish prince whose pride cost three thousand lives -- and whose repentance built a church that would illumine the north for generations.

The pilgrims of the Raven and the Dove begin their journey on the path to Whithorn, the legendary home of the Candida Casa, the white stone church of St. Ninian. There they went in search of the first saint of Scotland.

Nicola Yanney, an early 20th century Orthodox missionary in America and the first priest ordained by St. Raphael of Brooklyn, whose missionary territory included most of the Great Plains. Join Fr. Andrew as he explores the life of this holy man through interviews, research and prayer in Kearney, Nebraska, asking the question: Is Fr. Nicola a saint?

On July 18, 2024, the holy relics of St. Raphael of Brooklyn, Good Shepherd of the Lost Sheep in America, were translated from his grave at the Antiochian Village into the nearby St. Ignatius Chapel for veneration by the faithful. This great and historic event was accompanied by three signs from God and is now marked with a new feast day.
