I investigated a man named Jinroku who claimed to be a legendary samurai. After finding a common farm horse and mismatched gear in the stables, Jin unmasked the fraud. Instead of a duel, the impostor begged for mercy, while the villagers revealed they had indulged the lie for comfort.
After my infiltration of the trading post, I traveled to a peaceful farm filled with local peasants. The quiet atmosphere was a welcome change, but I knew I had to investigate a potential lead in this area.
A peasant asked me to wait inside a house for a man named Jinroku. I was invited to join them for dinner, which officially triggered the side quest titled "The Other Side of Honor."
Jinroku returned, claiming he was exhausted from a dangerous mission. He suggested me to take a bath before we shared a meal, but his overly polite demeanor felt suspicious to a warrior like Jin.
I followed a lady named Nabe toward the bathhouse, but Jin decided to skip the soak as his instincts told him something was wrong, as he had no memory of this man fighting at Komoda Beach.
I headed to the stables and inspected the horse. It was clearly a common farm animal, not a trained warhorse. Finding a saddle that belonged to someone else confirmed Jinroku was a complete impostor.
Returning to the house, I found the fake samurai had already fled. I climbed onto the roof to survey the surrounding farmland, looking for any sign of him in the distance.
I spotted him hiding behind a large rock far from the farm. I immediately began a high speed chase, as he tried to disappear into the mountains.
The chase led to a dead end at the Kashine Onsen. Realizing he was trapped, the impostor drew his sword and challenged me to a duel, trying to maintain his facade one last time.
As I drew my katana, the man's courage vanished. He dropped his weapon and begged for mercy, admitting he only lied about being a samurai to survive.
I allowed the man to live on the condition that he never wear the armor again. He fled the area, leaving his stolen honor behind at the edge of the hot spring.
I returned to the farm to inform the villagers that their protector was a fraud. I expected them to be angry or frightened by the news of his departure.
A woman at the farm smiled and told me they already knew the truth. They found the man's stories entertaining and his presence harmless, choosing to play along to keep their spirits high.
