The Parable of the Sower

In the Book of Luke chapter 8 verses 4-10 We see in the Gospel narrative of Luke that this parable has a specific application to the teaching of Jesus.

First Luke raises the question of why there were so many different reactions to the miracles and the message. Why do the same events seen by everyone in the crowd affect so many people so differently?

Subsequent to these questions were directed directly in the parable.

The parable outlines four different conditions.

The sower went out to sow his seed; and as he sowed, some fell beside the route, and it was trampled under foot and the birds of the air ate it up.

Other seeds fell on the rocky ground, and as soon as it grew, it dried away, because there was no moisture.

The other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up with it and choked it.

The other seed fell into the right soil, and grew up, and produced a crop a hundred times as great. ” As He said these things, He would call out, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

Some have called this parable a Parable of the Soils.

The parable consists of three parts:

The parable itself, Luke chapter 8 verses 4-8 The Disciples ask the reasoning of Jesus about the teaching in parables which Jesus explains in Luke chapter 8 verses 9-10.
