I have spent a lot of time over the last couple of years working with indigenous elders and teachers. I have grown so much by studying with them, learning from their traditions, and remembering the wisdom that many natives are here to share. And yet there are many pitfalls to be aware of. Many indigenous people are still suffering discrimination and abuse. Many white people unknowingly play the role of the savior and end up continuing the abuse through cultural appropriation. And yet it is understandable for us to seek a wisdom tradition because many of us are so disconnected from our own ancestry.

Today I discuss my own experiences and the challenges that I have encountered. Remember, discernment is key. Respect is critical. And always work from the heart. Love is most certainly the answer.
