Johns writes that blessed is the one who reads and hears the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it, for the time is near.

He is told to write down what he sees and send it to the seven churches: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea.

 He sees lamp stands that are representations of the seven churches.
