The pattern for the "Why" God was judging Ephraim seems to be the same pattern that America is on. Humble Godly beginnings to pride, rejecting God to thinking we are self sufficient, down to turning to other "gods' of science and chaos. Pattern is prophecy and unless we repent we will end up like the House of Israel.
