My iPhone Gave Me a Message I Didn't Want to Hear…Make Room
Have you ever received a message that seemed small at first, but God used it to teach you something BIG? 👀✨
That happened to me when I tried to update my iPhone.
I was excited about the new update until my phone delivered three words I didn't want to see:
NOT ENOUGH STORAGE.
I couldn't receive the update until I made room.
As I deleted old screenshots, duplicate pictures, unused apps, and forgotten files, a spiritual lesson began to unfold.
What if God is saying the same thing to us?
What if we're praying for new opportunities, greater purpose, and fresh direction—but our lives are already filled with distractions, old habits, unnecessary burdens, and things we've outgrown?
In Episode 4 of The Pen Behind the Voice, we're slowing down “Make Room” by Jonathan McReynolds to reflect on what it means to prepare our hearts and lives for God's next chapter.
As a mom navigating a new season while helping my daughter prepare for college, I'm learning that growth requires adjustment. Sometimes, moving forward means releasing what was right for yesterday.
🌿 In this episode, we'll explore:
💎 THE PEARL: “You don't need more answers. You need more room.”
Maybe the thing you've been asking God to add isn't the first thing you need.
Maybe there's something He's asking you to release.
🎙️ Welcome to The Pen Behind the Voice — where we remember the music, revisit the memories, and rediscover what God is saying right now.

What if the name you've been carrying isn't the name God gave you?
As a little girl, I was called "Fat Rat."
It started as a nickname after getting caught sneaking cheese slices from the kitchen in the middle of the night. But what many people didn't know was that behind the nickname was a little girl trying to process the trauma of a tonsillectomy, changes in her relationship with food, and the pain of being teased during one of the most vulnerable seasons of her childhood.
In this powerful TPBTV episode inspired by the theme of DMX's "What's My Name?", we're talking about:
✨ Childhood labels that follow us into adulthood
✨ The emotional impact of teasing and nicknames
✨ How trauma can silently shape our identity
✨ What God says about who you are
✨ Breaking free from the names people gave you
✨ Stepping into the identity God intended
Tonight, we're not just having a conversation.
We're having a breakthrough.

In this episode of The Pen Behind the Voice, Ebony revisits Whitney Houston and CeCe Winans’ timeless duet Count On Me — a song that shaped her childhood and still speaks to her grown‑woman soul today. From harmonizing with her sister‑cousins as little girls to leaning on each other through the real weight of adulthood, this reflection explores how dependable love evolves but never disappears. Ebony unpacks the songwriter’s message of loyalty, emotional safety, and covenant support — and connects it to Isaiah 41:10, where God promises to strengthen, uphold, and stay with us through every season. If you’ve ever needed a reminder that you are held, supported, and never walking alone, this episode is your breath for the busy soul.
Sometimes a song hits different when life is shifting.
In this first episode of The Pen Behind the Voice, Ebony Kimbrough revisits “Butterfly” and explores how its themes of release, becoming, and quiet transformation mirror the moments in our lives when we’re learning to let go and grow.
This 7‑minute reflection slows down the noise and offers space to think, breathe, and reconnect with yourself. Ebony shares the personal spark that inspired this entire podcast — a moment of stillness, a familiar song, and the realization that music often says what our hearts haven’t found words for yet.
If you’ve been needing to release something in order to return to yourself, this episode gives you a gentle pause and a fresh perspective.
