High priests were crucial for the life and fellowship of the OT believer. They functioned as mediators who came in between two parties who are estranged from one another to bring in peace. The OT priests ultimately pointed to Jesus, the Great High Priest whose priesthood will be forever. In Heb 5:1-10, the author gives three reasons to be confident and draw near to the throne of grace because of the person and work of Christ.

Theme: We have confidence in God’s mercy and grace because of Christ, so draw near!
