Good morning. It’s Friday, September 20. Pennsylvania State Police has quietly stopped collecting data on the race of drivers its troopers pull over … which makes it nearly impossible to detect systemic bias. An investigation by the Spotlight P.A. reporting collaborative learned that the agency made the move in 2012 without announcing it publicly. A spokesperson for the state police said the decision was made because studies found no evidence of racial profiling during stops.
