Christian's journey along the highway, fenced by the wall called Salvation, was initially difficult due to a heavy burden on his back. He ran with this load until he reached a place that was somewhat ascending, where a cross stood, and a sepulchre lay a little below it in the bottom.

The second stripped him of his rags and clothed him "with change of raiment." The third set a mark on his forehead and gave him a sealed roll to look at as he ran and give in at the Celestial Gate.

After the Shining Ones departed, Christian reacted with immense joy, giving three leaps and singing about his liberation from sin and grief at this blessed place. He then continued his journey but soon encountered three men—Simple, Sloth, and Presumption—sleeping off the path with fetters on their heels, presenting a stark contrast to his newfound freedom.
