We Are The Worst

The Plural of Nemesis

Listen Later

Hello friends!
This week, we’ve got a couple of bummers for you!
Dreia has the story of the Jigsaw Ghost and her horrible origin story. Perry Parker was a prominent banker in LA in 1927 and had a wonderful life with his wife and two young twin girls Marion and Marjorie. When the twins were 12 years old, a man in a suit came to their school and claimed he was a coworker of Perry’s and that their father had been in an accident and the smaller twin needed to go with him. This proved to be a lie and poor Marion was kidnapped and brutally murdered. To this day, her ghost haunts the area.
Maggie’s story is just as fun – in that it is not fun at all. She’s going to tell you about the Tamam Shud case of the Case of the Somerton Man. In late November 1948, the body of a man was found on Somerton beach. He was well dressed and had appeared to have been smoking while laying on the beach. The coroner felt that the man was poisoned, but there was no trace of poison in his system. The police could never identify the man, despite having found a lot of very strange evidence – including a small piece of paper rolled up tightly in a secret pocket of his trousers that simply said “Tamam Shud,” which translates to “It is ended.”
