THE POLITICALLY INCORRECT JESUS -- John 19:1-16

Listen Later

In case you haven’t noticed, in our society today it is politically incorrect to claim Jesus, to  speak of Him, or even to invoke His blessings upon our nation, our homes, or our families. Now, I’m speaking of acknowledging the REAL Jesus. I’m speaking of the Jesus of the Bible. The “hip” religious crowd today is offering the world a different Jesus – a “modernized” version of the Son of God. (And many have bought into it.) They have crafted a watered down version of the Jesus of the Bible. They offer a Jesus who is tolerant of sin, not expectant of holiness. (See Matthew 5:48 ; I Peter 1:15-16), and politically and socially correct. Even in Paul’s day “another Jesus” and “another gospel” were being presented. Listen to what the Apostle Paul had to say in II Corinthians 11:1-4: “Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me. (2) For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. (3) But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. (4) For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.” And in Matthew 24:4-5 Jesus said: “And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. (5) For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.” But I am here to tell you this morning that there is only one Jesus, and He is NOT the politically correct Jesus many are promoting today. God only had one Son. John 3:16“For God so loved the world, that he gave his ONLY BEGOTTEN SON, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” The Bible is a picture of Jesus from Genesis to Revelation, and if you change even one little thing about Jesus, you change the picture into something that does not even resemble the Jesus who came to this earth and went to the cross to die for our sin. What our nation and what our world want today is a watered down Jesus, a “modern” Jesus, a “trendy” Jesus, a Jesus who is tolerant of sin, a Jesus who expects no holiness from His people. Instead, we need the Jesus of the Word of God -- Who condemns sin but loves the sinner, Who is the way, the only way to the Father, and Who those that have gone before us served and worshipped in spirit and in truth. For the next few weeks – all the way to Easter – we’re going to look at this Jesus and what He has done for us. But first we want to view Him as the politically incorrect Jesus. In America today many people (and some of them profess to be Christians) do not want to acknowledge the reality of God or confess the deity of Jesus. This is sad! A 2022 Gallup Poll said belief in God in America had fallen to its lowest point with only 81% of Americans professing a belief in God. This is sad because our founding fathers quite obviously believed in God and in creation. They said all are “endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights.” Yes, in America today it is politically incorrect to believe in, to talk about, or to stand up for Jesus. But it has always been so when you take you stand for the Jesus of the Bible. In II Timothy 3:12 Paul said: “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.” We will see in this message that even in Bible days, Jesus caused quite a stir.

  I. JESUS WAS POLITICALLY INCORRECT.

 II. JESUS IS RELIGIOUSLY INCORRECT.

III.  JESUS IS ALWAYS CORRECT WITH THE FATHER.
