When persons who survived a heart attack take a daily triple agent polypill, their risk of a second heart attack, stent placement or revascularization surgery, or stroke drops by 24% and their risk of death drops by 33%.  Cardiac researchers from New York’s Mt. Sinai School of Medicine just reported these results in the New England Journal and presented them to the European Society of Cardiology after studying nearly 2500 patients ins 7 European countries.

This convenience polypill, marketed as Trinomia, contains low-dose aspirin to fight clotting and inflammation, ramipril to control blood pressure, and atorvastatin to normalize blood lipids.  These drugs are often prescribed separately, but other studies reveal fewer than 50% of patients take them faithfully.   That’s why the polypill, a convenience med, works so much better.
