In 1633, the nuns of Loudun, France, found themselves at the centre of allegations of witchcraft.  It seemed that, as per their allegations, that they had been possessed by demons sent to drive them mad and inspire them to blasphemy and deviant sexual acts.  The allegation of the Mother Superior was that the local priest, Urbain Grandier was responsible for causing the possession.
