Cosmos Hub is trying to become the security layer for the application-specific chains or appchains in the ecosystem. With the IBC protocol, Cosmos has the infrastructure ready to expand its ecosystem horizontally to new chains and applications. By building connection points between major ecosystems with appchains, Cosmos will be able to form important hubs that users flock to. This will give rise to a whole range of new projects too, such as products for stablecoin swapping.
